What is the difference between PVC and rubber in wire?

2021-09-29
PVC and rubber are the two most commonly used materials for waterproof connector wires. Their price and quality have certain differences. How should we choose?

1. The difference in definition
Rubber is a highly elastic polymer material with reversible deformation. It is elastic at room temperature, can produce large deformation under a small external force, and can return to its original state after removing the external force. Rubber is a completely amorphous polymer,
PVC, formerly known as polyvinyl chloride, is a polymer formed by the polymerization of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) in peroxides, azo compounds and other initiators; or under the action of light and heat according to the free radical polymerization reaction mechanism. .
2. The difference in classification
Rubber is divided into natural rubber and synthetic rubber according to the raw material. Rubber: According to the form, it is divided into raw rubber, latex, liquid rubber and powder rubber.
PVC is a general-purpose PVC resin, high-polymerization degree PVC resin, and cross-linked PVC resin according to the scope of application; according to the polymerization method, PVC can be divided into four categories: suspension PVC, emulsion PVC, bulk polymerization Vinyl chloride, solution-method PVC; According to the content of plasticizer, PVC is divided into: non-plasticized PVC, with a plasticizer content of 0; rigid PVC, with a plasticizer content of less than 10%
3. Preparation method
In order to add various required compounding agents to the rubber, the raw rubber first needs to be plasticized to increase its plasticity; then carbon black and various rubber additives are uniformly mixed with the rubber to form a rubber compound; It is pressed out into a blank of a certain shape; then it is combined with the textile material (or metal material) that has been calendered or glued to form a semi-finished product; finally after vulcanization, the plastic semi-finished product is made into a highly elastic final product.

Polyvinyl chloride can be made by substitution reaction of ethylene, chlorine and catalyst.
